S-112 Intro to Chainsaw Operations

Mattole Restoration Council is excited to invite you to a hands on course where you’ll learn proper safety procedures. This wildland fire chainsaw course was developed to provide new sawyers with a solid foundation for safe and efficient chainsaw handling and operation while bucking, limbing, brushing, and slashing, and felling for project work or fireline construction.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN 1. Basic chainsaw safety, maintenance & operation 2. Chainsaw tasks & techniques: Handling, Bucking, Limbing, Brushing & Slashing 3. Chainsaw tasks & techniques: Felling 4. Forest Thinning techniques/ Fireline Construction 5. Students will receive an NWCG certification pending their performance at the completion of the course WHAT TO BRING 1. (Classroom) Pen and paper for taking notes 2. (Field Days) PPE -Rain gear, long pants and long sleeves, 8″ tall leather boots, helmet, chaps, gloves, eye protection. Rain or shine, be prepared! If weather conditions create unsafe working conditions, we will p ostpone the training. 3. (Field Days) Chainsaw, gas, bar oil, wedges (MRC will have extra of all of these items) 4. Please bring your own drinking water for the day. MRC
