NAMNUPÁKAAM MEADOWS SHAPE WATER FROM THE HIGH COUNTRY TO THE RAPIDS – Immersive 5-Day Camp/Workshop
LEARN WITH THE HIGH-COUNTRY MEADOWS THAT HELP SUSTAIN THE KLAMATH RIVER THROUGH AN IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE KARUK DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES (DNR).
STUDENTS WILL:
• Camp in the Namnupákaam high country meadows, hike through recent burn areas, and raft the Klamath River
• Learn from Karuk knowledge holders about the cultural and ecological importance of meadows, as places where water, plants, and all beings are in relationship.
• Use Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) and western science monitoring methods to study processes that shape flows of water from the meadows
• Support restoration by building beaver dam analogs and monitoring meadow plants.
No rafting experience required, but a willingness to camp in the high country is needed.
