The 8th annual Coho Confab will be held August 12-14, 2005, at the Wolf Creek Education Center in Redwood National Park, five miles north of Orick and three miles from the ocean, in Humboldt County. Trees Foundation will once again partner with the Salmon Restoration Federation to host the Coho Confab, which is a symposium to explore watershed restoration and learn techniques to enhance recovery of salmon and steelhead.
The Confab brings together community members, landowners, activists, scientists, and restoration ecologists for a weekend of innovative skills-building workshops, hands-on restoration projects, community networking, and fun.
Participants learn an array of restoration techniques such as road construction and maintenance, streambank stabilization, water quality monitoring, native plant restoration, fish identification, and more. Details on this year's event will be available through the mail and online at www.treesfoundation.org later this spring.
If you are on the Confab mailing list you will be receiving registration information in the mail by June 1st. Otherwise, contact the Trees Foundation at 707/923-4377 or community@treesfoundation.org to add your name to the mailing list.
The Wolf Creek Education Center includes a lodge with a modern kitchen, and dining and meeting areas. Participants can stay in rustic cabins that are close to the shower house and restrooms, or in a limited number of tent sites. The Center also has an amphitheater and four miles of loop trails that access old-growth redwood groves and meadow and stream ecosystems. In addition, the site encompasses an active trout and salmon spawning stream, and it has direct access to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park.
