BACH joined wilderness and public lands advocates in Washington, DC in a lobby effort to ensure full funding for the management plans for the Headwaters Reserve and other lands in the National Landscape Conservation System. On an entirely different track, our market campaign research is identifying ways to harness the outrage--felt far beyond Humboldt County--at Maxxam/Pacific Lumber's blatant attempt to unseat a democratically elected official this past year. The ultimate goal of any market campaign is to foster responsibility in purchasing on the part of retailers, and to support thoughtful and ethical choices by consumers. We are tracking the chain of custody of redwood coming from Pacific Lumber's Humboldt County mills and pressing for a recognition among purchasers that the marketing of redwood, unless it comes from a small, sustainable operation, is a practice that belongs in our past.
